Review: A Cautious Heart by Genevieve Matthews

Paw Prints Rating: iiiii

Book Synopsis - He’s running from his past. She’s running for her life.

Bree is tired of being afraid. She’s ready to tuck away the ugliness of her past and start fresh, and the charming little town up the coast is the perfect place to stage a comeback. The last thing on her mind is finding a man. Until she sets eyes on Heath, the bouncer with a protective streak who finally makes her feel safe.

Heath can’t get past the one bad decision that almost ruined him. He’s a man looking for a purpose, and he finds it when fragile Bree walks into his life with her shy smile, warm heart, and perfect curves. The reformed bad boy isn’t going to let this chance at redemption pass him by.

Bree and Heath are more perfect for each other than they know. But can you ever really be free of the choices you’ve made? Will they be able to outrun their pasts and fine happiness together?

A Cautious Heart is a standalone romance. No cliffhangers, no cheating. Just lots of steamy encounters and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.

Book review -

*I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

*WARNING* There is some talk of domestic violence, as a DV survivor I can say that there wasn't enough to set off any triggers for me but that doesn't mean it won't for someone else.

This is such a classic love story, but yet there are some dark twists...boy and girl have troubled pasts, they meet and conquer the dark together.

The courage it takes Bree to leave the abusive situation she is in and move away is almost heart wrenching, especially knowing she is leaving behind her best friend and only family. But, she is greatly welcomed in her new town and quickly makes not only new friends but settles herself somewhere safe. Of course the "bad boy" as it were is so smitten with her he feels that he has to protect her from what ever she is running from.

Heath is a pretty boy with what pretty bad past, but he has worked so hard to make right and be a better person. He is everything a girl could ask for, handsome, a little mysterious, and a complete sweet heart. I love the way he treats Bree after knowing what she left behind, and you can actually feel the weight of the world lift his shoulders when she doesn't dismiss him because he had a terrible temper.

I think the author really paints a easily imaginable and relatable story. I look forward to read more of her work.

Happy Howls (positives): The characters are so easy to relate to in the real world. The author didn't make everything so fantastical that the reader doesn't feel that it's a fiction love story.

Gruesome Growls (negatives): I would've liked to read a bit more of the budding relationship between Bree and Heath
