My hubby and I LOVE to travel, but sometimes you realize that the most beautiful and perfect places to visit are right in your very own backyard!! We live in the beautiful state of Wyoming where you will see nature in it's finest and most pure moments. I've decided that I'll be starting out the travel portion of this blog with a series on the spectacular places around our amazing state. I hope that by traveling through my posts you will find a few new amazing places that you've never been to add to your travel bucket list!! Let's go for a drive....
This past weekend Russell and I drove into Kaycee to get fuel in my truck and something to drink. We live on a ranch about 16 miles from Kaycee so we are frequently heading to the local Sinclair gas station for fuel, snacks, or even some worms for fishing. So as we were pulling out Russell apparently decided that it wasn't time to go home yet and turned the opposite direction. So a Saturday evening drive it is then. Our drive took out near Hole in Wall and Outlaw Canyon, he wanted to check out this little creek he'd been told about that suppose to be some pretty good Brook Trout fishing. Well that turned into me wanting to head out to the canyon to get some pics and see how my truck would do on the road out there since my bestie and I are wanting to take our littles out on local adventures over the summer, can we say summer learning..lol!!! So out to Outlaw Canyon we went...hoping that MAYBE we could find the way up to the famous Outlaw Cave, think Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid here. We didn't find the cave but the canyon is beyond gorgeous this time of year.
So it was then decided that we were gonna try out that little creek after Russell got off work on Sunday. Well Sunday rolls around and he gets off early, so we pack up the fishing gear and off we go, stopping at Sinclair once more for some drinks, snacks, and some worms, and we set off to go fishing!! I'm so glad that I remembered to grab my camera too because I managed some pretty amazing shots while he was dropping his worms in the creek...he did catch 2 little brookies though so it wasn't a complete wash...
After a while the clouds started rolling and we started getting rained on, so I figured we were going home, but no, Russell decided that we were going to go to Crazy Woman Creek...so off we go heading N on the interstate heading towards Buffalo looking for this creek. We make the turn and he goes the wrong way!!! LOL!!! Needless to say we did get a bit lost but it was totally worth it, we got some cell signal and I google mapped the directions to Crazy Woman Canyon...well that took us to the bottom of the canyon instead of near the campground at the top like he thought it would. But we said, eh let's head up the canyon and see what we see. My heart completely melted in my chest...the few pictures I managed before my batteries started dying and it started pouring down rain simply don't do it any justice...it quite simply took my breathe away. Russell has been to the Big Horn Mountains many times as a kid, going fishing and camping, where as my mom wasn't big on going anywhere other than the lake and occasionally Garden Creeks Falls. Once we reached the top we dropped down into Buffalo and I fell more and more in love with the Big Horns...I dare say I think I may actually love them more than my hubby...lol shhhh!! All in all it was a wonderful weekend filled with unexpected adventure and new sights. We are now planning an amazing camping trip in the Big Horns after the kids get back home from the their summer time with their other parents. I don't know about you, but this girl can't wait!!!
Here's the pics of the canyon, as is the opening photo...
